Dear Young People,

The next international WYD will take place from January 22-27 2019 in Panama. Participating in a WYD, with Pope Francis and other young people from all around the world, is an opportunity to live and experience an encounter with Jesus Christ in a festive and prayerful atmosphere. It is also the ideal occasion to overcome the feeling of being alone in our faith and to share with other young people from all continents.

Pope Francis invited us to journey towards international WYD 2019, accompanied by Mary, “the young woman of Nazareth whom God chose as the Mother of his Son.” During diocesan WYD 2017, we were inspired by Mary to live joyful lives of thanksgiving as we reflected on her canticle of praise “The Almighty has done great things for me” (Lk 1:49). In 2018, we joined her in listening to God who invites us to have courage in the present moment: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God” (Lk 1:30).

I invite you to join me and the Mission Jeunesse Montreal delegation at the 34th World Youth Day in Panama where, together with Mary, we will deepen the theme: “I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” (Lk 1:38) This international gathering with Pope Francis will be an experience of faith, fellowship and communion with our Church and the world.
